shuttle landing

so the shuttle landed this morning in california. am i a bad american for not really caring? i can't seem to get past the fact that this voyage cost $43B and the US is sorely lagging behind in the fields of communication, unemployment benefits, number of homeless, healthcare, teachers need to fight for more money while schools cancel art and music programs because of lack of funds.

i am sick of it. i am happy that the crew laded it safely but would be very happy if nasa was shelved and the money was used elsewhere.

your thoughts?

Comments:
maybe i am naive here, but why is the space shuttle more important that health care or education? i would really like someone to explain this to me.

i agree with you Allie, but i find it hard to believe that we are the only ones that see the terrible skewing of priorities here.

I think that the space program is a good thing, but trying to keep it going with decades old technology is a problem. If it was a car you'd only spend so much on it before scrapping it and starting again. If the shuttles are doing that poorly, surely they could redesign them from the ground up to provide a better method. Has technology not prgressed even slightly since 1981?

good point pete, the US is 16th in the world in terms of technology, yet we claim to be the world leader. and with this president retarding technological advancements such as stem cell research, we will slip further behind too.
